The Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Detective Branch of police arrested seven suspected arms dealers, including a woman, from the capital’s Jatrabari and Farmgate area in the early hours of Monday.
Based on information, the special squad carried out their first raid around 1.45am in Tejgaon area of Farmgate and arrested Mohammad Kabil, 22, Jinnur Rahman alias Jillur, 23, and Rakibul Hassan alias Rocky, 24.
The squad recovered three foreign pistols and 15 rounds of bullets from their possession, said Krishna Podo Ray, deputy commissioner (South) of the DB.
In another raid at Jatrabari, the squad arrested Nizam Uddin, 50, Saddam Hossain, 24, Shariful Islam alias Ashraful Islam, 26, and their accomplice Khaleda Begum alias Shima, 20.
From there the law enforcers recovered two foreign pistols, 13 rounds of bullets and 6.2 Kg explosive from their possession.
DC Krishna said the special squad arrested the arms dealers on the information gleaned from the arrested fake DB police and abductors.
Masudur Rahman, DC of the DMP, Sanowar Hossain, additional DC of the DB and chief of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Sayedur Rahman, ADC of the DB, were present at the briefing.
Krishna said the arrested criminals primarily confessed to have collected the arms and explosive from border areas. They said they had rent out those arms and explosives to the fake DB police gang.
