SC upholds HC order to free Suchitra's house

Update : 04 May 2014, 10:05 AM

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court order to free the ancestral house of legendary actress Suchitra Sen from illegal occupation.

The three-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Justice SK Sinha passed the order after hearing an appeal filed by Ayub Hossain Khan on behalf of the Imam Gazzali Institute.

Additional Attorney general Murad Reza moved for the government at the hearing while AJ Mohammad Ali for the petitioner.

The residence of the legendary actress has been occupied by the Imam Gazzali Institute over decades, although the people of the district have been demanding measures to free the historic house from the grabber's occupation.

The High Court on August 18, 2011 ordered the authorities concerned to vacate the home from illegal occupation within two months of the order.
