Update : 22 Apr 2014, 06:39 AM

A Dhaka court has granted more times to the Criminal Investigation Department to submit the investigation report in the major general Abul Manzur killing case.

Dhaka First Additional District and Sessions Judge Khandakar Hasan Mahmud Firoz passed the order to submit further investigation report within July 15 following a petition filed by Investigation Officer of the case CID Special Superintendent Abdul Kahar Akhand.

The court also granted HM Ershad's plea to exempt him from personal appear before it until the probe report is submitted.

Earlier, the court had ordered the CID to submit the investigation report before it by Tuesday.

Special Public Prosecutor Asaduzzaman Khan said the CID needs more time for the investigation. They are trying to identify the faults of previous report.

General Manzur was killed in 1981 after the assassination of BNP founder and then president Ziaur Rahman.

On February 28, 1995, barrister Abul Monsoor Ahmed, brother of slain Abul Manzoor, lodged a case with Panchlaish police station in Chittagong accusing Major Emdadul of killing Manzur.

On July 15, 1995, CID officer Abdul Kahar Akand submitted the charge sheet to the court against five including Ershad, former DGFI officer Kazi Emdadul Haque, who was later discharged from the service, discharged officer Mustafa Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan and two retired army officers – Abdul Latif and Shamsur Rahman Shams.

The then army chief, Abu Saleh Md Nasim and metropolitan judge Abul Hashem gave testimony before the court on October 28, 2010.
