A freedom fighter in the case against war crimes accused Syed Mohammad Qaisar yesterday said “Qaisar Bahini” killed his father.
The witness had fought the 1971 Liberation War under S-Force led by Maj (retd) Shafiullah.
In his deposition the witness identified the accused as the chief of “Qaisar Bahini” which committed atrocities in Habiganj area collaborating with the Pakistani occupation forces. Mohammad Ali Pathan, 64, was the fourth prosecution witness against Qaisar, the former state minister for agriculture in HM Ershad’s regime.
He described at the tribunal 2 the incidents of attack and casualties in Madhabpur and Krishnanagar areas in Habiganj perpetrated by the “Qaisar Bahini” and the Pakistani troops.
The witness said: “On April 28, 1971, I heard from some villagers that my father was killed by the Pakistani Army under the directives of the Qaisar Bahini. I went to my house and saw the dead bodies of my father and three other villagers on the southern part of our house. I wrapped him up with my rain coat and buried him on the spot without performing any rituals. He was killed on April 27.”
The three-member tribunal 2 headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan recorded his deposition while defence counsel Abdus Sobhan Tarafder started grilling the witness. After three questions, the tribunal adjourned the trial until Sunday accepting an adjournment plea of the defence.
