3 Hizb-ut Tahrir men jailed in city

Three activists of banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment by a mobile court in Kotwail area of the city yesterday.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station Shah Alam said they had arrested three youths – Khalid Hossain, Mizanur Rahman and Alamgir Hossain around 2:30pm while they had been distributing leaflets containing various provocative statements against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia.

Later, Magistrate Iftekhar Alam handed down the verdict around 8pm after the detainees confessed their offences, the OC added.

Of the convicts, Khalid and Mizanur, students Daffodil University, have been sentenced to two years of jail and another youth Alamgir to one year imprisonment.
