The Special Security Force Act, 2021 is set to be amended including provisions provisions for the security of the chief adviser of the interim government and the repeal of certain provisions of the existing law.
The "Special Security Force Amendment Ordinance, 2024" was unanimously approved at an advisory council meeting on Thursday.
The Chief Adviser's Office had taken the initiative to amend the law, the chief adviser's press wing said in a press release after the meeting.
The release says that the Special Security Force Act was enacted to provide security to the president, the prime minister, members of the family of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, heads of state or government of any country and individuals declared as very important persons (VIPs).
After a mass uprising, an interim government was formed on August 8, comprising the chief adviser and other advisers. In this changed situation, it is necessary to ensure the security of the chief adviser under the SSF Act, the release adds.
“Additionally, the provisions for providing security to the members of the family of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the existing law cannot be effectively implemented through administrative measures. As a result, there is a felt need to abolish those provisions.”
