The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's bail granted by the High Court in three separate cases of vandalism and arson.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order on Sunday morning, disposing of the state plea that sought stay on Fakhrul's bail.
The apex court granted bail to Fakhrul until police submit the probe report before the lower court in the cases.
The court also asked the BNP leader to surrender before the court on the day police submit the probe report.
Currently, Fakhrul is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University upon a High Court order.
Of the three cases, two were filed with Paltan police station on December 28, 2014 and January 4, 2015, and the third one with Motijheel police station on January 6 under explosive substances act.
Fakhrul was detained from the Press Club on January 5 and he was shown arrested in seven vandalism and arson cases. He has so far secured bail in four cases.
