A probe committee has been formed over an “unprecedented incident” between intern doctors and nurses and brothers of Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The four-member probe panel has been asked to file its report within a week, the hospital's Assistant Director Dr Tanmoy Bhattacharya saidon Monday morning.
“An intern doctor engaged in an altercation with a student of the nursing institute on Sunday night. The matter was dissolved immediately in mediation of the director.”
The probe committee formed was headed by a professor of the hospital, he said. However, the official denied to disclose any names.
Hospital sources said intern doctor Tofail Ahmed summoned on-duty brother Proloy to ward 5 after Sunday midnight. An altercation ensued because of delay.
The intern doctor was said to have assaulted the brother on the spot. The incident soon spread between nurses and brothers and intern doctors.
The nurses and brothers abandoned work and staged demonstration at the hospital premises demanding justice over the matter.
Authorities rushed to mediate the situation around1am, following which the nurses and brothers are said to have resumed work, according to a source.
