Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital will be turned into medical university, Health and Family Welfare Minister Muhammad Nasim has said.
The minister made the announcement while addressing a discussion meeting at the hospital auditorium on Saturday.
The medical college will be named AHM Qamaruzzaman Medical University.
The people of Rajshahi will get more medical facilities if the college is turned to university, the health minister said.
In the meeting, Nasim has also urged the doctors to stop frequent strike call for the sake of not hampering the continued treatment to the patients and their betterment.
Rajshahi Medical University Implementation Council organized the meeting.
With Chairman of RMCH Management Committee Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, in the chair, former Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, President of Bangladesh Medical Association Prof Dr Mahmud Hassan and Additional Director General of the Directorate of Health Prof Dr Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad also spoke on the occasion.
