With the arrival of the new variant of coronavirus and the infection rate going up, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has ordered to bolster Covid-19 vaccination program as soon as possible.
Dr Mohammed Nizam Uddin, member of the Covid-19 vaccine management task force, confirmed this information. A letter was sent to all concerned regarding this order on Wednesday.
The letter reads that a decision has been made to start the vaccination program for first, second, and booster (third and fourth) doses with the Pfizer vaccine.
As per the instruction, priority should be given to frontline health workers, people aged 60 and over, people aged 18 and over with chronic diseases, and pregnant women.
In the initial stage, vaccination would take place in eight centres in Dhaka- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Mugda Medical College And Hospital, Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital, Sarkari Karmachari Hospital- Fulbaria.
Later, the vaccination program would be conducted in other hospitals as well.
Pfizer RTU vaccine would be used for the first and second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Initially, this vaccination would be given at DNCC Covid Dedicated Hospital in Mohakhali and Nayabazar Dhaka Metropolitan General Hospital of Dhaka South City Corporation.
Vaccine cards downloaded from the Surokkha website or app should be brought to the vaccination centres for vaccination.
