Covid-19: Bangladesh records lowest single-day caseload in 1.5 years

Bangladesh recorded 243 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday, which is the lowest in 18 months.
The last time Bangladesh recorded a lower number of cases was on April 14, 2020, when 209 people tested positive for the virus.
The country also registered 10 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.
Besides, 534 more patients recovered from the disease in the 24 hours between 8am on Wednesday and 8am on Thursday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest additions took the country’s death toll to 27,801, the total caseload to 1,566,907 and the total number of recoveries to 1,530,083.
A total of 16,088 samples were tested during the 24-hour period, yielding an infection rate of 1.51%. The overall infection rate in the country stands at 15.4%.
The seven-day moving average of single-day deaths in Bangladesh was 9.14on Thursday.
Chittagong division recorded the highest number of four deaths, followed by Dhaka with 3 while Khulna, Barisal and Mymensingh counted one death each.
Of the new patients, Dhaka logged 163 cases, the highest among the divisions, followed by Chittagong with 29.
Meanwhile, the latest figures have put the recovery rate at 97.65% and the mortality rate at 1.77%.
Around 39.16 million people in the country have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Of them, some 19.63 million have taken both doses, as DGHS data aggregated till Tuesday show.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8 last year. The first death was reported 10 days later.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has so far claimed over 4.9 million lives and infected more than 242 million people throughout the world, according to Worldometer.
More than 220 million people have recovered from the disease, which has affected 223 countries and territories across the planet.
