Walk-in Covid-19 vaccination in city corporations, municipalities as well from Saturday

Authorities plan to inoculate 10 million people in a week starting from Saturday

Update : 04 Aug 2021, 10:08 AM

The walk-in Covid-10 vaccination campaign for anyone 18 years of age or above at city corporation and municipality level across the country will also begin from Saturday.

Earlier, on July 27, the government had decided to launch this drive for the people only at the union level from August 7.

The development was shared by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through a notice on its Facebook page on Tuesday night.

Eligible recipients will have to bring their National Identity (NID) cards to the inoculation centres to receive the vaccine.

Those who do not have NID cards or birth registration certificates will also get vaccines through special arrangements, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said recently.

“We will send some extra vaccine doses to the centres to meet this demand,” he said.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque also said recently that they plan to have 10 million Covid-19 shots administered between August 7 and 14.

For inoculating 10 million people in a week, authorities will have to administer 2.5 million doses a day, given that the drive is conducted four days a week.

Bangladesh launched its nationwide vaccination program on February 7. More than 14 million doses of four types of vaccines were administered until Tuesday afternoon, including the first and second shots.

Meanwhile, since March last year, Covid-19 has infected 1,296,093 people and killed 21,397 people in Bangladesh until Tuesday morning.
