The coronavirus unit of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital has counted 18 deaths in the 24 hours to 8am on Tuesday, logging the highest single-day fatality.
Of them, 10 tested positive for Covid-19 while the rest had symptoms, said Dr Mohiuddin Khan, a spokesperson for the hospital.
A total of 265 new cases have been reported during the same period, said the civil surgeon’s office.
“As many as 975 samples were tested in 24 hours with a positivity rate of 27.17%,” Civil Surgeon Md Nazrul Islam told Dhaka Tribune.
The Covid unit of the Mymensingh hospital is now treating 462 patients, of which 20 have been kept in intensive care (ICU), said Dr Khan.
“The number of new Covid hospitalization in a day is 84 while recovery stood at 52,” he added.
