Bangladesh on Friday recorded 22 Covid-19 deaths and 1,541 fresh cases overnight.
The recovery count rose to 252,335 after another 1,923 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period, a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“Twenty-two more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 4,881,” the release said.
It said the tally of infections has surged to 345,805 as 1,541 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
A total of 12,730 samples were tested at 95 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.
Of the total sample tested in the past 24 hours, 12.11% tested positive, while 19.25% cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.
Among the total infections, 72.97% patients have recovered, while 1.41% died so far since the first Covid-19 cases were reported in the country on March 8.
Of the 22 deceased, 16 were men and six women, the press release said, adding that two were in their 40s, eight in their 50s, while 12 were above 60 years old.
According to the division-wise data, 13 deaths took place in Dhaka division, three in Chittagong division, and rests in other divisions.
Of the total 4,881 deaths, 2,382 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,021 in Chittagong division, 329 in Rajshahi division, 413 in Khulna division, 183 in Barisal division, 220 in Sylhet division, 230 in Rangpur division, and 103 in Mymensingh division, according to the press release.
A total of 1,796,509 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.
The DGHS said to make treatment facilities easily available for Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced telemedicine services comprising 100 physicians for round the clock service in the country.
A total of 360,321 people have so far received healthcare services from telemedicine.
The DGHS said 20,671,231 people received healthcare services from hotline mobile numbers and health web portals as the government formed a group of medical professionals to provide emergency healthcare services.

As of Friday evening, 951,177 people have died so far of Covid-19, and there are currently 30,383,443 confirmed cases in 212 countries and territories, according to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics.
China was the first country which on January 11 reported the first death from coronavirus infection in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province.
