The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has suspended the permission for Covid-19 testing of Aalok Health Care and Hospital on Tuesday.
The Hospitals and Clinics section made the order, signed by Director Dr Md Farid Hossain Miah, to suspend its reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR) testing as an inspection team found as many as six abnormalities in the health care facilities.
The inspection was conducted on September 3 and found that samples were being collected at an under-construction building which had not been authorized.
Besides, the hospital also did not make any structural reformation that was advised by a healthcare team in July.
The diagnostic centre was reportedly using a scanned signature illegally and the laboratory did not have its own sterilizer. The waste management system of the health care facilities was also in poor state, the investigation found.
On July 9, DGHS Additional Director General Prof Nasima Sultana, for the first time, had said that of the 17 diagnostic centres that got permission for rt-PCR testing, five were yet to start. Aalok Health Care was one of them.
The very next day, DGHS integrated control room, informed that the diagnostic centre started Covid-19 testing - completing 46 tests on the first day.
On July 12, DGHS revoked coronavirus testing permission of five hospitals and diagnostic centres - Sahabuddin Medical College Hospital, Care Medical College, Stemz Healthcare, Thaicare Diagnostic, and Chittagong’s Epic Healthcare for various mismanagement or corruption related issues.
