Bangladesh on Wednesday crossed 3,500 Covid-19 deaths as 42 more people died of the infection in the last 24 hours.
With the latest deaths, the number of total coronavirus fatalities in Bangladesh rose to 3,513.
Besides, 2,995 more have tested positive for the deadly virus over the same period, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 266,498, disclosed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through a press release.

A total of 1,117 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
So far, a total of 1,53,089 patients — 57.44% of all the infected — have made full recovery from the disease across the country.
As many as 14,550 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 14,751 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in 86 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.

To date, no fewer than 1,302,739 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to a whopping 20.46% infection rate as of yet.
The press release said that of the 42 deceased – 33 are men and nine women – 27 were from the Dhaka division, three from Chittagong, three from Khulna, four from Sylhet, one from Barisal and two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against total cases detected so far was 1.32% until Wednesday
Among the victims, 39 died at different hospitals and three at home.

As per government data, individuals who are 60 years old and above are the most vulnerable to Covid-19, as 47.42% of the dead until Wednesday are in this age group.
Meanwhile, 28.38% of the total deceased were aged between 51 to 60, 13.66% were 41-50, 6.43% aged between 31-40, 2.59% were 21 to 30, 0.97% were 11-20 and 0.54% were under the age of 10.
So far, 2,782 men (79.19%) and 731 women (21.19%) have died from the virus across the country.
In the Dhaka Metropolitan area, 2,189 patients are currently hospitalized and 196 ICUs are occupied.
In the Chittagong Metropolitan area, 226 patients are currently hospitalized and 18 ICUs are occupied.
Meanwhile, the other Covid-19 dedicated hospitals across the country currently have a total of 1,842 patients hospitalized and 92 in ICUs.
A total of 11,013 out of the 15,270 general beds and 237 out of 543 ICUs are vacant at all hospitals in the country, added the release.

On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus strain Sars-CoV-2.
The country recorded its first fatality on March 18.
The novel coronavirus had broken out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed 746,000 lives and infected 20,554,000 people across the world till 6pm on Wednesday, according to Worldometer.
As many as 13,467,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
