President Hamid's younger brother Abdul Hye dies of Covid-19

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death

Abdul Hye, younger brother of President Md Abdul Hamid, passed away due to Covid-19 at a hospital in Dhaka early Friday. He was 67.

Hye, also a freedom fighter, breathed his last around 1:15am at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, said the president's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin, reports UNB.

Abdul Hye, also assistant personal secretary (APS) to President Abdul Hamid, tested positive for Covid-19 on July 2 and was taken to the CMH.

He was put on ventilation support since July 12 as his condition deteriorated.

Hye is survived by wife, a son, two daughters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He was the eighth of his nine brothers and sisters.

He will be buried at his family graveyard in Miathmain on Sunday after Zohr prayers, reports BSS.

Born in 1953 in Mithamain upazila of Kishoreganj district, Abdul Hye was a commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Shangshad, Mithamain.

He was also former assistant professor of Muktijoddha Abdul Haque Government College in Mithamain and founding member and teacher of Haji Tayeb Uddin High School.

He started his job as an APS to the deputy speaker of the parliament in 1997 and went on retirement as a deputy director of Public Relations unit in the Parliament Secretariat on December 30, 2013.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Hye. She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, and State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, among others, also expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Abdul Hye.
