Single-day Covid-19 test positivity rate steady at over 20%

22.47% of 14,245 samples tested between July 5 and July 6 came back positive

Bangladesh continues to see the trend of one in every five people testing positive for Covid-19, with the health authorities reporting a 22.47% test positivity rate in the last 24 hours. 

During the daily Covid-19 bulletin on Monday afternoon, Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said 15,201 samples had been collected from suspected Covid-19 patients between Sunday and Monday. 

Between the same time span, 14,245 samples were tested in 68 authorized labs (out of 73) -- government and private -- across the country. 

With 3,201 of the tests coming back positive, the detection rate of new patients in the last 24 hours stood at 22.47%, she said.

On Sunday, the test positivity rate took a dip after several weeks of being steady at around 20% – the DGHS reported 19.57% single-day test positivity rate on Sunday. 

The rate reached an all-time high on June 18, with 23.39% of the total number of samples tested in a day coming back positive.

Till date, about 860,307 samples have been tested in Bangladesh, with an average of 19.25% infection rate as of yet.
