Child Rights Advocacy Coalition in Bangladesh has requested the government and other affiliated organizations to stand beside the underprivileged child labourers and their families by providing financial assistance to protect them from the impact of coronavirus.
The organization made the request through a statement on Friday.
The press release applauded the government for the steps it has taken to protect the underprivileged communities and children from the devastation of coronavirus.
According to the latest survey, at least 1.7 million children in Bangladesh are involved in child labour including 1.28 million children working in dangerous jobs.
As many families are dependent on the earnings by these child labourers, the organization asked the government to help them by prioritizing the social safety net programmes, the statement reads.
The organization also requested the government to provide health care facilities to the child labourers and their families.
The organization further requested the business owners who employ child labourers to make sure those children can stay at their home during coronavirus pandemic. The owners should also help them with financial support so that they can stay home, the press release says.
The statement says, in the post-Covid-19 world, many children who used to go to schools might be forced to go work as child labourers.
Child Rights Advocacy Coalition in Bangladesh appealed to everyone in the government, various organizations, the international community, and other concerned authorities to work together to make sure the children in the country do not face any crisis during the pandemic.
