Communist Party of Bangladesh’s (CPB) Dhaka city unit General Secretary Sajedul Haque Rubel tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
Rubel, who contested in the Dhaka North City Corporation mayoral election early this year with CPB ticket, is now receiving treatment at his Mirpur residence.
He was a pivotal figure behind the carrying out of assistance initiatives for poor and lower income groups affected by the coronavirus across the city, especially in Mirpur and Kafrul.
Rubel, along with other party comrades, has been running several community kitchens that provide meals to the poor since the middle of Ramadan.
They were also engaged in providing food assistance to poor workers’ families, and making hand sanitizers for free distribution among the working class.
