Residents of Mirpur Bihari camp took to the streets for the second consecutive day demanding relief goods as they are forced to stay at home to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hundreds of people from the Murapara camp blocked a road in Pallabi on Tuesday afternoon.
The agitating people said they did not have any food in their homes as the government-enforced shutdown had left them without jobs.
They said they would continue their demonstration as long as the government did not take any step to meet their demands.
The protesters also claimed that they had already provided their national identity card (NID) numbers to local councillors for relief materials but did not receive any.
The demonstrators were seen holding up placards reading “Help Murapara Camp residents.”
Pallabi police station Inspector (Investigation) Abdul Mabud said: “Some people were seen protesting on the road demanding relief. We have sent the protesters back to the camp, assuring them that they would receive relief soon. We have also contacted the local councillors regarding the matter.”
Earlier on Monday, the Bihari camp residents blocked a road in front of Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur demanding relief aid.
Coronavirus has so far infected 3,382 people and killed 110 people in Bangladesh.
