Coronavirus: Selise introduces concept of identifying immunized individuals

Immunized individuals can participate in various day-to-day activities, and even provide help in critical sectors such as healthcare, public transport, or the food industry

Selise, one of the largest software exporters in Bangladesh, has proposed a digital concept to identify individuals who have obtained immunity against Covid-19 as to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

Identifying immunized individuals can help in a multitude of ways.

If the information on the number of people who have reached immunity can be traced, it will help different factions of the country to have a better understanding of the rate at which the novel coronavirus has spread.

Immunized individuals can also participate in various day-to-day activities, and even provide help in critical sectors such as healthcare, public transport, or the food industry.

Keeping that in mind, Selise has introduced the concept of an online platform that can be used to store information of all those who have recovered from Covid-19, thus obtaining immunity.

The platform aims to connect five groups of people and organizations - diagnostic centres, law enforcement agencies, ordinary citizens, policymakers, and service-oriented organizations such as hospitals, restaurants or airports.

How will the platform work?

By accessing the home page, anyone can sign up just by using their mobile number. Upon logging in, they will instantly be assigned a unique testing number.

Users will also have the option to upload their national identity card (NID) and fill in personal details. All the information will be stored in an online directory that can be accessed by the diagnostic centres.

Meanwhile, diagnostic centres can log in to the directory, from where they can search and access registered citizens – or even add new ones.

The diagnostic centres can use the unique testing numbers to publish the results of their antibody tests. Each time a result is published, the number will be attached to it.

Law enforcement agents will be able to scan QR codes of citizens to receive their test status. They can vet the app’s identity against the NID of the citizens, and upon a match, can confirm their health status by checking the online directory.

Service-oriented organizations can ask for a person’s health status prior to their entry inside the organization by using the platform.

The greatest advantage lies in sharing the data in real-time with the policymakers – they can make weighted decisions, implement policies and offer valuable insights to the public based on the data generated from Selise’s platform.

The privacy of all data will be protected vigorously, as the search will only work based on the citizen’s system ID. High-security measures, as well as behavioural tracking of the test centre users, will protect the database from any external threats.

Selise has waived all claims for intellectual property on the digital platform concept, and its underlying ideas, and has instead requested the government of Bangladesh and other Saarc countries to adopt the idea in its ongoing battle to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
