Coronavirus: Deaths exceed recovery count for the first time

Bangladesh crossed 1,000 cases with the 209 new reported cases in the last 24 hours

Update : 14 Apr 2020, 05:21 PM

Alongside breaking its previous records of deaths from confirmed cases of Covid-19, Bangladesh on Tuesday registered another grim landmark.

For the first time since March 18 when the country reported its first death caused by the novel coronavirus, the number of deaths due to coronavirus infection went past the number of patients who recovered from Covid-19.

Moreover, the country saw a sharp increase in infections as well, as it confirmed its highest-single day coronavirus positive cases and new deaths, taking the tallies to 1,012 and 46, respectively.

The health authorities disclosed the updates in a regular online bulletin on Tuesday afternoon.

Bangladesh crossed the 1,000 mark with the 209 new cases in a 24-hour span until Tuesday afternoon.

The number of recovered patients remained static at 42, as there were no further cases of recovery reported, while the death toll increased to 46 with the seven newly reported deaths.

The last recoveries were reported on Monday when the authorities stated that three patients recovered in the 24 hours after their previous briefing.

Bangladesh’s previous highest single-day death toll was six on April 10, with the most one-day cases (182) reported on Monday.
