The government has increased the monthly honorarium and other financial benefits for freedom fighters, families of martyred freedom fighters and war-wounded freedom fighters.
The revised rates, announced in a notification issued by the Budget Branch of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, will take effect from July 1, 2026.
Under the new rates, monthly honorariums, festival allowances, medical allowances and special grants for Victory Day and the Bangla New Year have been increased for various categories of freedom fighters and their families. Benefits for families of martyred freedom fighters have also been raised.
The ministry said the decision was taken under Section 3 of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust Act, 2018, and the relevant rules framed by the ministry, with the aim of strengthening the welfare, dignity and social security of freedom fighters.
Under the revised structure, recipients of the Bir Uttam title will receive a monthly honorarium of Tk30,000, along with Tk10,000 as a festival allowance, Tk5,000 on Victory Day and Tk2,000 for the Bangla New Year.
Recipients of the Bir Bikram and Bir Protik titles will receive a monthly honorarium of Tk25,000, as well as Tk10,000 in festival allowance, Tk5,000 for Victory Day and Tk2,000 for the Bangla New Year.
Families of martyred freedom fighters will receive a monthly honorarium of Tk23,000, a Tk2,000 medical allowance, a Tk5,000 food allowance, a festival allowance of Tk23,000 and Tk2,000 for the Bangla New Year.
The government has also revised monthly honorariums for war-wounded freedom fighters based on disability categories. Category A (96-100% disability) beneficiaries will receive Tk30,000 per month, Category B (61-95%) Tk28,000, Category C (20-60%) Tk23,000, and Category D (1-19%) Tk20,000.
The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Dr Md Asaduzzaman, said the government is continuing to implement welfare programs to strengthen the financial security and social status of freedom fighters and their families. Source: BSS.
