Govt rebuffs Independence Day parade cancellation reports

No parade in Dhaka on March 26, but celebrations to continue nationwide, says Chief Adviser’s Press Wing

Update : 16 Mar 2025, 10:31 PM

News claiming there will be no parade on March 26, Independence Day, this year is not true, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has said.

In a statement to the press on Sunday, it said that due to ongoing renovation work at the National Stadium, it is not possible to hold the parade in Dhaka this year, just like the past few years, reports Bangla Tribune.

However, the interim government will organize parades with due honor and hold receptions for valiant freedom fighters in the remaining 63 districts across the country, the press wing added.

It said all deputy commissioners have been given the necessary instructions to take the required steps in this regard.

Earlier in the afternoon, Home Ministry Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani reportedly told journalists that there would be no parade this year.

At that time, the Nasimul said: "Ramadan is ongoing, and the Eid holidays are falling around this time. March 26 coincides with this period. In a meeting, we discussed risk reduction during this time. There was no parade last year, and there will not be one this year, either. We are not in a mood for celebration; we are currently in a war-like situation."

When asked whether there were any security risks or law-and-order concerns on Independence Day, the senior secretary replied: "I do not see any risks."
