Bangladesh Railway has completed preparations for advanced ticket sales and passenger transportation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The sale of intercity train tickets will begin on March 14 and continue until March 20.
During this period, passengers will be able to purchase advance tickets for trains running from March 24 to March 30.
On Thursday, the Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Mohammad Fahimul Islam provided this information.
Prior to this, on Tuesday, a preparatory meeting for Eid-ul-Fitr was held at the Rail Bhaban, chaired by the director general of Bangladesh Railway.
According to sources from the meeting, as per the Railway's plan, ticket sales for March 24 trains may start on March 14 and Eid travel is likely to begin on March 24.
To manage the expected passenger surge, special trains will be operated on certain routes, though the final number of special trains and routes will be determined based on demand.
For this year's Eid journey, Bangladesh Railway plans to sell 35,315 advance tickets daily from Dhaka.
Additionally, proposals have been made to attach extra engines and coaches to trains to accommodate the increased number of passengers.
According to the plan, 36 additional coaches will be attached, with some coming from the Pahartali workshop and others from the Saidpur workshop.
The Director General of Bangladesh Railway Mohammad Afzal Hossain, said that all necessary preparations are being made to ensure a smooth Eid journey.
Another meeting will be held on Sunday, chaired by the adviser to the Ministry of Railways, to finalize the detailed plan.
