Md Sarwar Alam, a former information cadre officer, has been appointed as the press secretary to the president, with the rank of secretary, on a two-year contract.
The Ministry of Public Administration confirmed his appointment through a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Abul Hayat.
Sarwar Alam succeeds Md Joynal Abedin, another officer from the information cadre, in this role.
According to the notification: "In accordance with Section 49 of the Government Employment Act, 2018, Md Sarwar Alam (Reference No 7609) has been appointed as the president's press secretary in the rank of secretary for a two-year term from the date of joining. He is required to renounce any other profession, business, or employment relationship with government, semi-government, private institutions, or organizations."
The notification further said that other conditions of his appointment would be outlined in the contract.
Previously, Sarwar Alam served as deputy press secretary to several heads of government.
He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree with first-class honours from the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Dhaka.
