Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Saturday said a new president will be elected during the parliamentary session scheduled for September.

Speaking at a consultation on human rights at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka, the minister said there was no need to convene a special session of parliament to elect the new president.

Responding to a question about the case involving the former president, Asaduzzaman said it was too early to comment on the matter.

The law minister also said that if the cases filed against eight people injured during the July movement in Chittagong are found to be false, they will be withdrawn.

He added that the country currently has zero cases of extrajudicial killings.

Asaduzzaman also said no rape case would be withdrawn, regardless of how influential the accused may be.
