The Media Reform Commission has decided to engage in discussions with all stakeholders in phases to ensure complete freedom for the country's mass media.
The decision was made during the commission's first meeting, held at Tathya Bhaban in the city, chaired by Commission Chief Kamal Ahmed.
The meeting resolved to organize views-exchange sessions in various districts to gather input from publishers, editors, and journalists of local newspapers. It also decided to collect opinions from individuals across all sectors of society, according to a press release.
Additionally, the commission discussed conducting a public opinion survey to evaluate the current state of media freedom.
The members deliberated on strategies to make the media financially self-reliant and ensure financial security for all media workers.
A decision was also made to review the first Press Commission report and the recommendations provided by the Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television autonomy policy formulation commission.
At the start of the meeting, the commission members paid tribute to the martyrs of the July-August uprising and observed a one-minute silence in their memory.
Commission members Professor Geetiara Nasrin, Shamsul Haque Jahid, Akhtar Hossain Khan, Syed Abdal Ahmed, Fahim Ahmed, Jimi Amir, Mostafa Sabuj, Titu Datta Gupta, and Abdullah Al Mamun, among others, were present at the meeting.
