At least 17 files, deemed important, have gone missing from an office room of the Health Ministry’s Medical Education and Family Welfare Division at the Secretariat in Dhaka, according to a general diary (GD) filed with Shahbagh police station on Thursday.
Steno typists cum computer operators Md Joseph Sardar and Ayesha Siddika, after finishing Wednesday’s work, reportedly kept the files in a file cabinet in an office room of the ministry on Wednesday. However, the next day, the dockets were missing, following which a GD was filed that day.
The ministry is scheduled to hold a meeting in this regard on Sunday and form probe bodies to investigate the matter, officials of the Health Ministry said, wishing anonymity.
Moudud Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station, said a deputy secretary of the ministry had filed the GD and an investigation was underway.
According to ministry sources, the 17 files included dockets on purchases for the DGHS, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College, Rajshahi Medical College, vehicle purchase for training schools, and data on cervical and breast cancer screening programs.
