21 DSCC councillors show-caused

A letter signed on October 23 by DSCC Secretary Rabindra Sri Barua was sent to the councilors – 19 from general wards, and two from reserved seats, a press release issued on Sunday

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has issued show-cause notice to 21 councilors for remaining absent in more than three board meetings.

A letter signed on October 23 by DSCC Secretary Rabindra Sri Barua was sent to the councilors – 19 from general wards, and two from reserved seats, a press release issued on Sunday said.

The councilors were asked to answer the show-cause notice within seven working days.

Among them, ward councilor for Ward No-39 Moinul Hoque Manzu skipped meetings for the highest 15 times, and Md Hasan of Ward No-30 missed 14 times.

Councilors skipping meetings for 12 times each are - Gulam Ashraf Talukder of Ward No-12, Mostaba Zaman of Ward No-13, and Rashida Parvin alias Moni of Reserved Ward No-13.

Rest of the councilors are- Md Maksud Hossain alias Mohsin of Ward No-3, Md Gulam Hossain of Ward No-4, Md Ashrafuzzaman of Ward No-5, Abdul Basit Khan of Ward No-7, Mohammad Selim of Ward No-14, Jasim Uddin Ahmed of Ward No-18, Md Tariqul Islam Sajib of Ward No-22, Md Anwar Parvez Badal of Ward No-28, Md Hasan of Ward No-30, Rafiqul Islam Rasel of Ward no-31, Md Billal Shah of Ward no-32,  Md Awal Hossain of Ward No-33, Moinul Hoque Manzu of Ward No-39,  Makbul Islam Khan Tipu of Ward No- 40, Sarwar Hasan of Ward No-41,  Md Arif Hossain of Ward No-43, Mohammad Nasim Mia of Ward No-53, and Sheuly Hossain of Reserved Ward No-19.

On October 17, DSCC removed councilor for ward-9, AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed from his post for his alleged involvement in casino business.

Earlier on Thursday, Dhaka North City Corporation served show cause notice on 14 councilors, including four women councilors for the same reasons. 

The notices were served on the ward councilors following severe criticism against city corporation councilors amid the ongoing anti-graft raids.

Two DNCC councilors- Tarekuzzaman Rajib, and Habibur Rahman Mizan - were recently arrested for their alleged involvement in extortion, and other forms of corruption.
