The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has conducted market monitoring and mobile court operations at several kitchen markets to keep egg prices affordable for consumers and curb excessive profiteering.
The drives were conducted on Saturday in areas including Fakirapul, Kaptan Bazar, Basabo Bou and Nawabganj.
At Basabo Bou Bazar, two cases were filed and Tk15,000 was collected in fines for illegally occupying footpaths and violating regulations.
Led by Abu Aslam, regional executive officer of Zone-2 and executive magistrate, the team checked egg prices, wholesale purchase receipts and traders’ profit margins.
Traders were warned against selling eggs at inflated prices, while goods occupying the footpaths were removed.
At Fakirapul Market, DSCC Property Officer and Executive Magistrate Hasiba Khan, and at Kaptan Market, Executive Magistrate Aminul Islam, conducted inspections.
They reviewed the egg supply situation and warned traders against creating artificial shortages or charging excessive prices.
Meanwhile, monitoring was conducted at Nawabganj Market under Akter Unnesa Shuly, regional executive officer and executive magistrate of Zone-3, and at the kitchen market in Ward 7 of Zone-5 under Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Zainal Molla.
The DSCC said such drives would continue to keep the prices of essential commodities within the purchasing power of ordinary consumers.
