Kamal: No march past at Parade Ground on Dec 16

Law enforcement agencies have already been asked to boost up security measures

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said that the victory day march past of this year would not be held at the National Parade Ground due to the upcoming 11th general election. 

After a meeting on law and order on the occasion of the Victory Day celebration at the ministry conference room, he remarked: “Every year a parade is held on December 16 at the National Parade Ground, but this parade will not be held due to the general election.”

The minister added that everything will be held as per the previous year on Victory Day except the program at the national parade and confirmed that the law enforcement agencies have already been asked to boost up security measures for the occasion, reports BSS.

Notably, members of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force usually join the Combined Military parade at the parade square.

The president is saluted as the parade moves on, while the prime minister, cabinet members, judges, chiefs of three services, parliament members, diplomats and invited foreign guests are present on the Parade Ground. 

Kamal said: “The national memorial at Savar will be brought under close circuit television camera (CCTV) vigilance. The President, the Prime Minister and diplomats will be given the highest security on the day.”

Among others, Public Security Division Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Security Services Division Secretary Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari, Rapid Action BattalionDirector General Benazir Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miaand officials concerned were present in the meeting.
