The Border Guard Bangladesh yesterday handed over Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) a list of locations of yaba manufacturing factories in the neighbouring country.
At a meeting between the two forces, the BGP also provided information and data on the existence of the members of the Rohingya Solidarity Forces and other organisations allegedly active in Bangladesh, said BGB Information Officer Muhasin Reza.
This is the BGB’s first ever high-level meeting with the BGP on border security and law enforcement cooperation. The meeting is being held at Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar from June 10 at the invitation of Police Major General Zaw Win, chief of Myanmar police force, in the backdrop of the death of a BGB member in BGP firing on May 28.
BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed is leading an eight-member delegation while Myanmar’s police chief is leading his 13-member delegation.
A few BGB officials said the meeting focused on six agendas, including the death of the BGB member in BGP firing and preventing the smuggling of illegal drugs, especially yaba.
The BGB information officer said both sides had agreed to enhance cooperation between them, besides setting up direct communications, in curbing activities of illegal armed groups and criminals along the border areas.
The two sides also agreed to implement decisions made earlier at flag meetings and exchange information to control illicit drugs trafficking.
