The Foreign Ministry has summoned the Myanmar Ambassador, Myo Myint Than, to Dhaka and strongly protested firing and detention of a member of Border Guard Bangladesh.
“[He] was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday afternoon and was handed over a verbal note strongly protesting the firing and detention of a member of the BGB patrol team by Myanmar border police along the Bangladesh-Myanmar international border,” said a press release of the foreign ministry.
While meeting with the Secretary (Bilateral) Mustafa Kamal, Bangladesh also demanded immediate release of the captive member of BGB, Nayek Md Mizanur Rahman.
Mizanur Rahman has been missing since the indiscriminate firing by the Myanmar border police on Wednesday morning.
Bangladesh has also demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar has also lodged a strong protest with the Myanmar Foreign Ministry demanding an immediate investigation into the matter and release of the captive BGB member.
The Myanmar ambassador assured that the matter would be conveyed to the authorities concerned in Myanmar immediately.
