Due to bureaucratic hurdles and the lack of necessary certifications during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, Brazil was ultimately unable to export beef to Bangladesh, according to Brazilian Ambassador to Dhaka, Paulo Fernando Dias Feres.
The ambassador disclosed the information at a press conference held on Wednesday at a restaurant in Baridhara, Dhaka.
The event was organized by the Brazil-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) ahead of the "Made in Bangladesh Expo 2025," scheduled to take place from June 15 to 18 in São Paulo, Brazil.
Brazil has shown interest in exporting beef to Bangladesh for several years, at a very affordable price.
Ambassador Paulo Fernando Dias Feres highlighted that Brazil is the world’s largest producer of beef and poultry.
Many Muslim-majority countries import beef from Brazil, but Bangladesh does not yet permit such imports.
The ambassador explained that Brazil had been working to obtain this approval.
