24 pardoned expatriates returning home from UAE

Total number of pardoned Bangladeshis now stands at 188

Twenty-four individuals are scheduled to return to Bangladesh on Monday night after the United Arab Emirates government on Friday pardoned 75 more expatriates arrested for protesting in solidarity with Bangladesh's anti-discrimination student movement, bringing the total pardoned to 188.

According to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and the Bangladesh consulate in Dubai, they are travelling on an Air Arabia flight, which departed Abu Dhabi at 2pm local time.

The flight is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:30pm local time.

The returning individuals are Mohammad Sajib, Ali Ahmed, Shahabuddin, Mohammad Sagir Ahmed Talukder, Lokman Hossain, Mohammad Nur Hossain Khokon, Rakibul Islam, Ahsan Hazarika, Muhammad Dulal Mia Wasim, Nazir Hossain, Mohammad Saiful Islam, Mohammad Mofiz Ahmed, Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, Mohammad Abu Yasin Tuha, Shipon Ahmed, Tofazzal Hossain, Mohammad Yasin Anwar, Anwar, Mohammad Al Amin, Maidul Islam, Sahid Mia, Mohammad Sajidul Rahman, Hridoy Hasan, and Mohammad Nabeedul Islam.

On Friday, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment announced that the UAE government pardoned 75 Bangladeshi detainees who had been arrested for protesting.

With this, 188 Bangladeshis have been released under general amnesty.

Earlier, on September 3, the UAE granted clemency to 57 Bangladeshis in the first phase.
