Helen LaFave, Chargé d'affaires of the US embassy in Dhaka, called on new Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the foreign ministry on Wednesday.
This was the first meeting of the US envoy after the new interim government was formed in Bangladesh on August 8.
Besides her, the envoys of India, China, Saudi Arabia, EU, and the UK met the adviser.
Helen LaFave, however, did not talk to the media.
The adviser said all the envoys met him to convey their support to the new government. “They want to work with us.”
Earlier, the Awami League government accused the US of orchestrating the mass protests that forced former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to leave power on August 5 and flee to India.
The US State Department, however, termed such allegations “laughable”.
“Any implication that the United States was involved in Sheikh Hasina’s resignation is absolutely false. We have seen a lot of disinformation in recent weeks, and we remain incredibly committed to strengthening information integrity across the digital ecosystem, especially with our partners in South Asia,” Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said at the daily briefing in Washington.
The US suspended the routine consular services and are only handling emergency US citizen services at the embassy in Dhaka.
