Hasan attends Maldives president's swearing-in ceremony

  • South Asian neighbours attended the ceremony
  • Muizzu won the elections held in two phases

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud attended the oath-taking ceremony of Maldives' newly elected president and vice-president held at its capital Male's Republic Square.

President Mohammed Muizzu and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef took the oath on Friday evening. The information minister joined the function on behalf of Bangladesh said a release was received on Saturday.

South Asian neighbours attended the ceremony including the Sri Lankan president, vice president of Seychelles, special envoys and ministers of China, India, Pakistan, Turkey and the UAE, among others.

Peoples' National Congress Candidate Mohammed Muizzu won the elections held in two phases on September 9 and 30 and defeated Maldivians Democratic Party candidate former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Mohammed Muizzu has won 54.03% of the vote.

Cooperation between Bangladesh and Maldives continues in the fields of education, health, culture, youth and sports, aviation, information technology etc.
