The Indian High Commission in Dhaka hosted a get-together on Monday to bid farewell and wish success to students who were selected for ICCR scholarship.
ICCR is a flagship program of the Indian government for meritorious Bangladeshi nationals to pursue various courses in India at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD levels
Around 337 students from Dhaka, 77 from Chittagong, 63 from Rajshahi, 45 from Khulna and 28 from Sylhet, were among the selected ones.
These students coming from varied backgrounds will now study at premier educational institutes in different regions of India.
They will study in a variety of courses ranging from Engineering to Arts, Fine Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Dance and Culture.
Through this, they would also experience the diversity of India’s culture and languages, through their contact with the regional traditions prevailing in the areas of their study, the Indian High Commission said.
Deputy High Commissioner Dr Binoy George interacted with the ICCR batch of 2023-24, during the event.
He gave briefing and narrated anecdotes from his professional experience to encourage students to adapt to their new life in a familiar, yet foreign country.
During the interaction, the students also asked various questions pertaining to the ICCR scholarship. Other senior officers of the High Commission also motivated and encouraged the students.
More than 4,500 Bangladeshi nationals have so far availed these ICCR scholarships to study at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Delhi University, JNU, National Law School, and Rabindra Bharati University, among others.
Some of the famous ICCR alumni include well-known Rabindra Sangeet exponent - Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Vice-Chancellor Dalem Chandra Barman, Dean of Fine Arts in Dhaka University Professor Nisar Hossain, and famous cartoonist Shishir Bhattacharjee, among others.
