Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association Clément
Nyaletsossi stated that it is essential to respect the opposition for fair and free elections in Bangladesh.
He made the statement in a tweet on Monday.
In the tweet, he said that amid escalating violence and arrests during ongoing protests, he urged all
parties to exercise restraint.
I remind authorities of their duty to guarantee the right to assembly and refrain from exercising force,
he added.

The special rapporteur of the United Nations tweeted an image of the flag of Bangladesh along with the text.
He made separate statements on the suppression of BNP's political program in December 2022 and the
suppression of protesters during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh in May
2021. He added those two statements by sharing this tweet.
