The Election Commission (EC) has told the visiting EU election exploratory mission that it can send as many neutral observers as it wants.
“We said to them that they can send as many neutral observers as they want,” said Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath after a meeting with visiting European Union mission at Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal replied to different queries of the EU delegation led by Chelleri Riccardo.
During the hour-long meeting, the EU delegation enquired about the commission's preparations for holding the upcoming national election.
“They wanted to know about our preparations and capacity to hold the next general election fairly. The EU team was satisfied with them,” he said.
Ashok said the EU delegates also wanted to know about the voter list, voting centres and CCTV installation.
A technical team of the EU will meet the commission's election management officials next week, he added.
He said the Election Commission informed the EU team that it has so far conducted 911 elections.
Replying to another question, Ashok said there was no discussion about any polls-time government during the talks.
