The government has ordered not to allow 69 mother vessels of seven Russian companies, which have been sanctioned by the United States (US), to enter the ports of Bangladesh.

The list of banned ships includes several important categories of vessels, such as oil tankers, general cargo vessels, and more, a senior officer of the Ministry of Shipping said on Thursday

An official notification in this regard was sent by the chief of the Directorate of Shipping, Captain Sabbir Ahmed, on January 16.

In addition to these ships not being able to enter Bangladesh, their registration,

classification and other services will also be under a ban.

On January 22, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said Bangladesh will not accept the Russian ships which are under sanctions, noting that Bangladesh has developed a good relationship with the US.

Bangladesh has conveyed to the Russian side that they can send any ship except the sanctioned 69 ships carrying equipment for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

Momen hoped that Russia would now send non-sanctioned ships carrying the required materials.
