Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Monday met his Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar in Varanasi and discussed issues of bilateral interest.
They also discussed “various important events which are expected to take place in the coming days,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry, however, did not give any details about the forthcoming 'important events'.
The current relationship between Bangladesh and India is said to be the best in history. Bangladesh is now the largest development partner of India.
The ruling Awami League is preparing for the next general elections to return to power for the fourth consecutive term. The meeting between the two foreign ministers took place on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministers Meeting (G20 DMM) being held at the historic Indian city of Varanasi.
Bangladesh is participating as a guest country in G20 events. India assumed the G20 presidency for one year on December 1, 2022.
Under its presidency, India is expected to host over 200 meetings across the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10 in New Delhi.
The Foreign Ministry said both foreign ministers expressed satisfaction at the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as with various initiatives that were recently taken.
Dr Momen appreciated India for successfully steering the G20 meetings and the country's leadership role in addressing global challenges under its presidency.
