A Turkish Airlines flight carrying the body is set to land in Dhaka around 1pm

The body of Hadisur Rahman, the third engineer of ‘Banglar Samriddhi’ who was killed in a missile attack on the Ukrainian port of Olvia, is expected to arrive in Dhaka on Monday.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying his body is set to land at Shahjalal International Airport around 1pm on Monday.

The body was supposed to arrive on Sunday, but the flight was cancelled due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, said Md Daud Ali, the Bangladeshi ambassador to Romania.

A top official of Turkish Airlines said: "No more flights are operating today (Sunday) due to heavy snowfall in Istanbul. But there are three flights on Monday."

Hadisur’s body arrived in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, on Saturday. His body was supposed to reach Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon after completing some official requirements.

On Wednesday, the 28 surviving crew members of the Bangladeshi ship “Banglar Samriddhi”, who were stranded in war-torn Ukraine, arrived in Dhaka.

They went from Ukraine to Moldova to reach Bucharest and then flew to Dhaka.

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ship had been stranded at Olvia port in Ukraine since February 23, following Russia's invasion of its eastern European neighbor.

Hadisur, hailing from Betagi Upazila in Barguna, was killed in a rocket attack on the vessel on March 3. The ship had since then been declared abandoned.

Hadisur’s body was preserved in a bunker near Ukraine, as the procedure for bringing back the body was delayed because of the worsening situation in Ukraine.
