Bangladesh vehemently opposed the peace plan unveiled last month by the United States in a bid to end the decades-old conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.
Bangladesh believes that the interests of the Palestinians have not been protected in the plan which has been described by US President Donald Trump as the ‘deal of the century’.
“We vehemently oppose the plan as we believe the Palestinians’ interests were not protected,” State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shahriar Alam, told Dhaka Tribune.
“Our position remains the same. We support the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and their long struggle for peace and justice. We are always in favour of a two state solution,” he said.
“We are with the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspiration for an independent State of Palestine, on the basis of the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital” he added.
US President Donald Trump unveiled the plan in a White House press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on January 28. No Palestinian representation was there during the unveiling of the plan.
Palestinians immediately rejected the plan, which is still in draft form. Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and White House Adviser, formulated the plan that has so far attracted mixed reactions from across the globe.
