Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has handed over an invitation letter of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her bilateral visit to India in the first week of October.

Jaishankar handed over the letter when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban on Tuesday.

The premier extended her gratitude to Modi for the invitation, said PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim in a press conference after the meeting.

During the meeting, Jaishankar expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in energy sector, especially in the hydroelectricity project, to meet the growing demand of energy between the two neighbouring countries.

"The hydroelectric project can be implemented effectively since the project cost is lower," he said.

While talking about the advanced Indo-Bangla relations, Jaishankar said: "Understanding and collaboration in different sectors have increased in the last five years."

The Indian external affairs minister put emphasis on simplifying the countrymen's visits and increasing the regular contacts between the two friendly countries.
