Sheikh Hasina, Modi to inaugurate four schemes on Monday

The schemes will be launched by videoconference from capitals Dhaka and New Delhi

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi will jointly inaugurate four projects in Bangladesh, including the supply of 1,100 buses and trucks to Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Monday.

The Prime Minister’s Office sources said the two premiers will open the schemes through a videoconference from their respective capitals at 1:10 pm on Monday.

BRTC Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan said: “They will inaugurate the supply of 600 buses and 500 trucks to BRTC which were purchased with a line of credit from India.”

He said of the buses, 300 are double-deckers, 100 non-AC buses, 100 city AC buses, and 100 intercity AC buses.

Of the trucks, 350 have a 16.2-ton capacity, and 150 have a 10.2-ton capacity.

The BRTC chairman said that 47 BRTC buses and 25 trucks have already arrived in Bangladesh and added that more buses and trucks are on their way to Dhaka, while the remaining ones will reach by April and June this year.

The PMO sources also said the two prime ministers will inaugurate 36 community clinics in Jamalpur, Sherpur, Habiganj, Sunamgan,j and Brahmanbaria under grant financing of the government of India.

The sources added that the two other schemes to be opened by them are 11 water treatment plants in Bhandaria municipality of Pirojpur district under grant financing of the government of India, and the National Knowledge Network (NKN) extension to Bangladesh under an NKN extension to SAARC nations.
