Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria honours language martyrs

A cultural event was hosted with artistes representing seven languages

A colourful multi-lingual cultural event and discussion meeting was organized at the auditorium of the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, on February 28.

At the outset of the discussion meeting, a one minute silence was observed as a respect to the martyrs and the victims of the recent devastating fire in Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka.

A documentary on International Mother Language Day was screened at the event.

Stellar performances by the artistes from Bangladesh, Czech Republic, India, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria representing African Yoruba, the British High Commission, and the Bangladesh community, enthralled the audience.

Performance by Nigerian participants at the auditorium of the Bangladesh High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, on February 28 |CourtesyNigerian government officials, ambassadors and high commissioners of India, Korea, Kenya, Charge d’Affaires of Iraq, diplomats, civil society members, representatives from social and cultural organizations, a large number of  West Bengal expatriates of the Bangladesh Diaspora attended, along with their families. Performances by diplomats from Iran and Malaysia added colour to the event.

The guests were served traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.

The High Commission also observed International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner on February 21.
