Indian Navy Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba has arrived in Dhaka on Sunday, at the invitation of Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy, Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed.
He also serves as the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The Indian Navy chief is accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Reena Lanba, and a three-member delegation.
Admiral Lanba is set to pay courtesy calls to the honorable President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—as well as meet the senior military leadership of Bangladesh.
He will also address student officers at the National Defence College, in Mirpur area of Dhaka, and visit multiple naval establishments.
The visit of Admiral Lanba is likely to further strengthen the close and fraternal ties existing between the armed forces of the two countries.
During the visit, the two navy chiefs will jointly inaugurate the Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) at Chittagong. The CORPAT will be conducted by the navies of both countries for the first time in history.
The Indian Navy chief had earlier visited Bangladesh in November 2017, to attend the 'IONS Multilateral Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise' (IMMSAREX), organized by the Bangladesh Navy, under the aegis of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium.
